first_imgFILE – In this Sept. 7, 2014, file photo, Cleveland Browns cornerback Justin Gilbert (21) tackles Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Markus Wheaton (11) during the second quarter of an NFL football game in Pittsburgh. Wheaton spent his rookie season knowing he could make plays but wondering if his body would ever cooperate. Consider the questions answered after the second-year wide receiver set up the winning kick in Pittsburgh’s opening victory Cleveland. (AP Photo/Don Wright, File)The Steelers are 1-0 for the first time since 2010 and find themselves with a short week heading to Baltimore to play their hated rival on Thursday Night Football. The 1-0 record is looked at with both optimism and skepticism as the team looked like a Super Bowl contender in the first half last week against the Browns and a team who couldn’t beat Beaver Falls High School in the second half.Who are they really? The Ravens lost a tough game at home last week and certainly can’t afford to start the year 0-2. This game will tell us a lot about both teams and where their seasons may go.Here are the Keys to A Steelers Victory:1.   The defense needs to keep their heads in the game. Last week they fell flat on their face in the second half and against a team like Baltimore, at home on Thursday Night, that type of play won’t result in a win again.2. The defense must key in on Dennis Pitta. Pitta led the Ravens with 10 catches last week and is a dangerous tight end. In games like this, the tight end is an important outlet and taking him away will be huge.3. The offense must control the clock. Games between these two teams typically go down to the wire; so having a steady, stable running attack to chew up time is extremely important. LeVeon Bell will get the bulk of the carries and I’d be shocked if he ended up with less than 25 carries.4. The offensive line must keep Terrell Suggs off of Big Ben. He’s still one of their most dangerous defensive weapons and he can be extremely dangerous if he gets into the backfield. Here are a Few Things to Watch:1.   Special Teams-In these games, special teams make the difference. I’m anticipating a low scoring, tight affair. The kickers, punters and return men could very well decide the outcome.2.  Big Ben-He’s always a must watch but more interestingly will be if the team allows him to run the no huddle. If so, what plays will he call? I believe it’s important he does get this opportunity and that he mixes in both running and passing effectively.3. Ryan Shazier-The rookie looked really good in his first start and now it’s time for him to get introduced to a very heated rivalry. It’s expected he’ll play in many of these big games for years to come, let’s see what kind of an impact he has in his first one.4. Markus Wheaton-Wheaton had a solid game last week, hauling in six catches. I expect Antonio Brown to garner a lot of attention from the Ravens D, so Wheaton may be the number one receiving threat for the black and gold. Let’s see what he does with this opportunity.last_img read more
