And the streaming service, which recently topped 17 million subscribers, hopes that the Elisabeth Moss starrer from showrunner Bruce Miller continues to be as culturally relevant in April as its first season was when it was filmed before Donald Trump was elected president. Based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name, with the adaptation first bowing on Hulu in April 2017, The Handmaid’s Tale centers on Offred (Moss), formerly known as June, and formerly in control of her own life. That all changed when religious zealots forcefully seized control over the United State of America and turned it into the dystopian nation of Gilead, a world in which men wield absolute power over women, many of whom now serve as “handmaids,” tasked with reproduction in an increasingly sterile society. In Season Two, Offred and all our characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.(Photo by: Take Five/Hulu) Advertisement Facebook LEAVE A REPLY Cancel replyLog in to leave a comment Released in the months following Trump’s election, and in the midst of a rising tide of activism against systemic misogyny, The Handmaid’s Tale arrived with painfully relevant cultural impact, with the now-iconic uniform of the handmaids worn worldwide at protests, just as one example of the show’s widely felt significance. “It’s a costume that people have taken beyond the show and out into the real world,” Miller tells The Hollywood Reporter about how The Handmaid’s Tale has transcended television to become part of a global conversation. “It’s amazing.”

Apple’s big ‘show time’ press event is under two weeks away, but the company is still working to ensure it has a potent lineup for its long-teased video streaming service. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is still chasing collaborations with the likes of HBO, Showtime and Starz for pay-TV content to sit alongside its own original programming and movies. While we don’t know precisely how Apple’s streaming service will look until that March 25th showcase, it’s very likely to get its hooks into nearly all of the company’s media-consuming hardware, from iPhone to Apple TV. (Remember when it was going to make a TV? Seems like a decade ago.)Timing is reportedly tight. According to Bloomberg sources, a couple of deals are set to be inked this Friday. The gameplan is to ensure that people using Apple hardware will keep themselves interested with the company’s own apps and media, instead of hopping to 3rd party apps and services, like users do with Netflix and standalone apps from HBO and the rest. The process has worked out well for Apple Music.Rumors suggest that Apple will pitch its video and magazine services as separate entities with separate prices, but it could offer a bundle that offers, say, both services and an Apple Music sub at a cheaper price. Apple’s Tim Cook had noted that services will be crucial for the company, as iPhone sales slow and hardware innovation makes the once-annual upgrade less of a draw. 2 min read March 13, 2019 How Success Happens Hear from Polar Explorers, ultra marathoners, authors, artists and a range of other unique personalities to better understand the traits that make excellence possible.
