first_imgGo down in the semifinal against Barça for some inconvenience and caution, The match against Madrid did not miss it. It was one of the novelties of Cholo in the lineup. It was a final and the team needed the Commander, the third captain, charrúa blood, always a tribute to the sacrifice. But now He had been on the field for a hundred minutes, fresh from an injury and when on previous occasions he forced his muscles, he paid for it with long absences. The Uruguayan was the third change of the Cholo in the match and the first of the extension. He went to the bench making a fuss with his arms, He took off his socks and shin guards with fury, throwing them on the ground and therein lies the key to his anger, as he has learned AS: Giménez left angry at the field for being able to continue in good condition to continue on the field. It was the 97 ’minute of Madrid-Atlético when the fourth referee raised the sign with two numbers: the 2 of Giménez and the 15 of Savic. The Uruguayan had to leave the field. Y He did it upset, visibly angry. But not with Cholo or for change, as you might think. No. Josema’s anger It was with himself.center_img In fact, from that moment it was usual to see his tattooed arm appear on the bench, listen to him shout, cheer, motivate his teammates, as he did during the whole warm-up before the game, as if Simeone and Mono Burgos had an appendix, third coach, this Uruguayan. Who, by the way, the last time he appeared on the bench he wore two striking bandages on his twins made with ice. But there it was: half limping, with icy legs, and going one by one to his teammates, “Come on, come on, come on”, before the penalties that decided the game.last_img read more

first_img– security concerns in light of MoTP’s repairs citedThe Cabinet Council of Ministers this past week relocated the Executive’s highest decision-making forum to the Officers Mess of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Headquarters, Camp Ayanganna, Georgetown.Cabinet is chaired by Head of State David Granger, a former GDF Brigadier who has come in for intense criticism over the past year and a half for his continuous resort to the use of retired military officers to head several Commissions of Inquiry, among other key positions in his administration.President David Granger along with several members of his CabinetThe political Opposition has railed against what it has called the increasing militarisation of Guyana by Granger, a retired high-ranking military officer, now Executive President. The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), in a recent public missive, said, “The Granger Administration has a penchant for placing retired and serving military officers in Government agencies and departments and to head Commissions of Inquiry into one incident after another.”Since the election of May 11, 2015, several GDF officers under the command of Colonel Khemraj Persaud have been seconded to work in the Defence Secretariat at the Ministry of the Presidency (MoTP).The PPP/C’s concerns were sounded against the background of the appointments as Chairperson of the numerous Commissions of Inquiry of retired GDF officers, such as Brigadier Bruce Lovell, Retired Colonel Windee Algernon, Major General Joe Singh, Rear Admiral Gary Best and Larry London,Colonel Nazrul Hussain was also appointed to head the Department of National Events.A number of Army officers have also been appointed to a number of State Boards and other civilian positions. The Ministry of the Presidency has since downplayed the use of former military officers, saying that persons are selected for positions based on their competency. The Administration has also defended the resort to Base Camp Ayanganna for the holding of Cabinet meetings in light of ongoing repairs at the Ministry of the Presidency.According to a public missive issued on Tuesday by the Government’s Department of Public Information, under the hand of Director of Public Information, Imran Khan, the decision to use Camp Ayanganna’s facilities is rooted in the security concerns of the Administration. It was pointed out that the Ministry of the Presidency was currently undertaking urgent repair works in some sections of the main building of the complex, which has resulted in some rooms, including Cabinet Room, being temporarily unavailable for use.Defending the use of GDF’s Base Camp Ayanganna, Khan said that a thorough and extensive search was conducted for a suitable space to temporarily host Cabinet meetings, with the main requirements for a temporary alternative venue being privacy and confidentiality, security, document preparation and reproduction, size, cost, accessibility, parking and minimal disruption to traffic and regular business.According to Khan, in the Administration’s public announcement, “After consideration of a number of options, it was found that the vast majority of these venues did not meet several or some of the most important requirements or were unavailable for the times required.”The only venue which met the requirements was the Officers Mess at Camp Ayanganna and “this venue is being temporarily used for Cabinet meetings until repair works at the Ministry of the Presidency are complete”.last_img read more

first_imgWASHINGTON – Broadcasters along the U.S.-Mexico border fear they will be at a competitive disadvantage when the U.S. switches to digital television in 2009 because residents can still pick up Mexican stations on old TV sets. On Feb. 18, 2009, tens of millions of televisions that are not equipped to receive digital signals will no longer be able to receive programming. People in the U.S. with old televisions will have to buy converter boxes or subscribe to cable or a satellite service to get programming. But along the U.S.-Mexico border, Americans with old sets still can get free Mexican stations, and U.S. broadcasters fear they will choose not to convert to digital sets, costing them viewers. “The U.S. is cutting off all analog broadcasting. Mexico is not,” said Barry Friedman, a lobbyist who represents the Spanish-language broadcasters in south and west Texas. “Mexico will continue to transmit an analog signal receivable by everyone who hasn’t got rid of their old analog set. That will provide a competitive advantage to the Mexican stations.” 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Please try again.subscribeCongratulations! first_imgThe 2010 feast which was a huge success! The Rathmullan Harvest Feast is set to return on Sunday, October 5th and it really is all a bit of child’s play but for a wonderful cause.Having successfully taken place in 2010, efforts were put in place to revive the feast with this year’s proceeds supporting the development of an Accessible and Inclusive play area in the lovely seaside village. The feast comes in the form of a communal lunch and dinner in a vintage marquee on the site of the pier hotel on Sunday October 5th. The wonderful Rathmullan playground. This year’s bountiful menu includes oysters, Swilly fishcakes, Pat Patton’s shoulder of lamb and much more. Refreshments will be on hand to quench any resulting thirst. Each meal can be complemented by a pint of Kinnegar Beer or a bottle of wine – with half the proceeds of beer sales and €7.50 per bottle of wine being donated towards the play area. The net result of these contributions will be the provision of an Accessible and Inclusive extension to the existing play area in Rathmullan. This will ensure that all children, local or visiting, can have the opportunity to play together as children should. An inclusive play area is one which provides the means for all children to have the opportunity to play, through the provision of appropriate space and equipment to cater for whatever needs they may have. The ability to play is essential to children’s development, and the contributions made by those attending the feast will see that no child is denied this right. To add to the occasion a free program of events has been put in place to follow lunch or precede dinner including Sailing, Kayaking and Paddle Boarding Taster Sessions, Boat Trips on the Enterprise, Walking tours with Deirdre Friel, Tours of Kinnegar Brewing, visits to the Walled Garden at Rathmullan House, as well as music in the pubs. While these activities are free, any contributions towards the play area would be welcomed. The scene is set for some guilt free indulgence with tickets available for a lunch or dinner sitting at €25, with €15 of this going towards the play area. Tickets can be purchased in Rathmullan at the White Harte Pub, Belles Kitchen and Rathmullan House or by calling 074 915 8188. Further details of the feast and the day’s activities can be found via Rathmullan Information’s facebook page. The Rathmullan Harvest Feast is a joint initiative of the White Harte Pub, Belles Kitchen, Salt-n-Batter, Rathmullan House, Kinnegar Brewing, and the Taproom, organised with the generous support of Scarpello & Co, Pat Patton, Alfie’s, JGK Construction, and the Garvin O’Doherty Group. THE RATHMULLAN HARVEST FESTIVAL REALLY IS CHILD’S PLAY! was last modified: September 27th, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

first_imgDONEGAL goalie Shay Given says his Ireland team are disappointed with the draw with Slovakia – but must now move on in time for the clash with Russia on Tuesday.“We are disappointed. We had the home advantage and we couldn’t take advantage of that but we are still very much in the group,” insisted the Lifford man.“Slovakia are a good team. They have beaten Russia already in the group. They are no mugs. We knew it was going to be a tough game. They keep the ball very well. They had some chances as well.” Shay said it was unfair of critics to have a go when Friday night’s opponents were very good.Said Given: “It is easier said than done to control the game at home. You don’t dominate teams like Slovakia. They are a top team in Europe. I don’t think it’s easy to dominate any team in Europe.“If one of our chances had gone in, we’d be standing here talking about a great victory. We had 2 or 3 very good chances that didn’t go in for us. On other nights they would have went in.”He added: “We’ve got a game against Russia on Tuesday night, which is another huge game for us. I don’t know what our approach will be on Tuesday. We are just getting over this one now. We know it’s a huge game again. Russia had an important win tonight. They will be huge favourites but we have to keep our spirits up for a huge game.” Shane Long is ruled out of the trip to Moscow.SHAY: WE’RE DISAPPOINTED, BUT MUST LOOK FORWARD was last modified: September 3rd, 2011 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:IrelandLiffordShay Givenlast_img read more

They operate as advisory panels and were formed to bring representation to Los Angeles communities after the defeat of the secession movement. Neighborhood council leaders said they were encouraged by the mayor’s effort to form a bipartisan consensus on school reform. And some said they were willing to hear him out on how he plans to reform the school district. “I think he’s a skillful politician by including all people,” in the discussion of reform, said Meg Augello, a member of the Northridge West Neighborhood Council. The school system “is an issue that has to be addressed.” Ron Nagai, a member of the Porter Ranch council, agreed. “I think there is a failure on the part of LAUSD in terms of planning and it affects everyone,” he said. “A fourth high school is planned for Granada Hills, but not in Porter Ranch. Those issues don’t only affect Porter Ranch. It affects Granada Hills.” VAN NUYS – Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa called on neighborhood councils Thursday to help him deliver a campaign promise to take more control of the Los Angeles Unified School District and reform the city’s public education system. Speaking to more than 200 members of the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils in Van Nuys, the mayor said the community groups serve as a forum where “ideas and views percolate.” Villaraigosa also said the councils could help him generate the momentum needed to reform the school district, which educates some 700,000 students. “I would submit to you that the future is predicated on a great school system,” Villaraigosa said. “The neighborhood council should be involved in that. A neighborhood is predicated on how well their neighborhood school does.” last_img read more
