Chester-le-Street: Skipper Faf du Plessis said the victory over Sri Lanka left him with a “bittersweet” feeling as it came a “little bit too late” for South Africa, who are already out of contention for a place in the World Cup semifinals. Du Plessis top-scored with a 103-ball 96 as South Africa beat Sri Lanka by nine wicket Friday for only their second win in the tournament. “Long time coming hey. It was a good game, we did ourselves justice with the talent we have in that dressing room. Set up by a good bowling performance. Dwaine (Pretorius) was exceptional,” said Du Plessis after South Africa overhauled the target of 203, scoring 207 for one in 37.2 overs. Also Read – Dhoni, Paes spotted playing football together “We’ve been trying to get him into the XI, but it’s a balance thing. The nature of the wicket told me it needed to be straight lines with the ball, and that’s why I brought Dwaine and Andile on early. “Line and length was harder to face than pace on that wicket. (This win) feels bittersweet. It doesn’t feel like it means that much. It’s a little bit too late,” he added. Du Plessis said after seven games, South African batsmen finally managed to put up a decent show with the bat in the World Cup. Also Read – Andy Murray to make Grand Slam return at Australian Open “But the basics of batting were shown today. We haven’t had guys batting through, and big partnerships, but that was the case today. One big partnership, and suddenly everything seems so much easier,” he said. “Bangladesh was the one that really took the wind out of our sails. England were too good for us on that day. Bangladesh really sucker-punched us in the stomach, and then we took that into the next game, the first week really set us back, but we can’t use that as an excuse.” Former champions Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are all but out of the tournament after the Islanders produced another dismal batting show. With just six points from seven games, Sri Lanka still have a mathematical chance to be in the semifinals. But for that, they first need to win their last two games against already-eliminated West Indies (on July 1) and India (July 6) and then depend on favourable results from other remaining league stage games. After going down by nine-wickets to South Africa, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne blamed his side’s batting approach, which according to him was the architect of the defeat. “All departments went wrong, especially the batting. Kusal (Perera) and Avishka (Fernando) batted really well, we struggled to get even singles. If you can’t rotate the strike, it’s not easy. There’s pressure, and then there are big shots. The wicket got better and better, and South Africa batted really well,” he said. “The pitch was a bit slow, and South Africa bowled really well. They built pressure and kept fielders in the ring. They planned really well. We couldn’t get singles. We needed to get wickets early. “(Lasith) Malinga started really well, but at the other end we couldn’t build pressure. These are the sorts of things we need to think about and learn from. We have two more games, we have to win those two games. We have to work hard in all three departments. Heads up, and hopefully we’ll do well.”
Rabat – Morocco’s Health Ministry has ordered the recall of all batches of certain valsartan-based medicines supplied by the Chinese manufacturer Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical.Valsartan-based medications are used to treat clients with high blood pressure to reduce complications such as heart attacks. The medication is also used by patients who have had heart disease or a recent heart attack. The ministry called on medicine distributors and pharmacies to stop selling all valsartan-based medicines, including VALSARTAN WIN 80 mg and 160 mg, CO-VALSARTAN WIN 80 mg/12.5mg and 16 mg/25 mg and ATENSIL 40 mg, 80 mg and 160 mg. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, tests detected the appearance of an impurity, probably carcinogenic, in drugs containing valsartan manufactured by Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical.“If you use any of the medicines listed above, it is important to consult your doctor to replace it with another valsartan drug from a different source or take alternative treatment,” the ministry advised citizens. However, it is important for people using the medicines “not to interrupt” their treatment, and the ministry recommended patients consult their doctor or pharmacist with any questions. The alert affects several countries since N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) was detected in the active substance “valsartan,” added the statement.Analysts did not expect to find NDMA, and its presence must be linked to changes in the way the active substance was manufactured. The ministry noted that “only the drugs mentioned above are affected.”
OTTAWA — The federal government has blown its own timeline to unveil an update to Canada’s corporate-misconduct provisions, including changes that could help SNC-Lavalin avoid being barred from lucrative federal contracts. An internal federal document obtained by The Canadian Press shows the Liberal government was planning to announce a long-studied revision to its so-called “integrity regime” in early February.“The integrity regime’s updated ineligibility and suspension policy will be published in early February 2019, and will come into effect at the end of February 2019,” said information contained in a Feb. 4 email to an associate deputy minister. The email was released under access-to-information law.Three months later, the government has yet to publish the integrity-regime update, nor has it responded to requests to explain the reason for the delay. The integrity regime has been under scrutiny ever since SNC-Lavalin, the huge Montreal-based engineering and construction firm facing Canadian criminal charges over dealings in Libya, found itself at the centre of a political controversy in Ottawa. On Feb. 7, three days after the email, the Globe and Mail newspaper reported that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s aides pressed former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould to intervene in the SNC-Lavalin case and help it avoid prosecution through a plea-bargain-type deal. Trudeau has denied his officials acted inappropriately. This week, a Quebec judge ruled that there’s enough evidence against SNC-Lavalin to send the case to trial.A conviction could result in a severe punishment for the company: a disqualification from federal business for 10 years. Since much of SNC-Lavalin’s work is in civil construction projects, that could be deeply damaging to its Canadian business. However, SNC-Lavalin could still see a shorter suspension from federal contracts — or perhaps none at all — if the proposed update to the integrity regime comes into force.SNC-Lavalin urged the Liberal government in 2017 to weaken federal penalties for corporate misconduct to the point a guilty company could completely avoid a ban on receiving public contracts.A draft of the Liberal government’s new scheme released last fall shows the revised provisions will carry no minimum ineligibility period. Public Services Minister Carla Qualtrough, who is in charge of federal procurement, has said such a change would address concerns raised by companies about the “lack of flexibility” in the 10-year suspension terms.Any adjustments to the regime that help SNC-Lavalin dodge a ban could be politically sensitive for the Liberals. On Feb. 28, under questioning by a House of Commons committee, Qualtrough said the updated integrity regime would be finalized by late March or early April.Asked about the timing of the update’s eventual release this past week, Qualtrough’s department still has not provided a date. It also has yet to give an explanation for the delays. The integrity regime was designed to ensure the government only does business with ethical companies in Canada and abroad.Federal officials held a public consultation on the integrity regime in 2017. A summary of the process, which included input from SNC-Lavalin, said most participants felt a disqualification period of a decade, or even five years, was too long.Last fall, the proposal went through another round of public consultations with the aim of making additional tweaks before coming into force.Another tool designed to deal with corporate wrongdoing has been under a microscope since the political affair involving SNC-Lavalin first made headlines. The company has made unsuccessful attempts to preserve its ability to bid on federal contracts under that separate, plea bargain-type approach that would head off a criminal case. But the federal director of public prosecutions ruled late in 2018 that its case was ill-suited for such a deal, which is known as a remediation agreement or a deferred-prosecution agreement. It’s the legal avenue at the heart of the political controversy that surrounded the Liberals earlier this year. The federal attorney general has the power to overrule the director’s rejection of a deferred-prosecution agreement and take on the case him- or herself. Wilson-Raybould declined to do so.David Lametti, who replaced Wilson-Raybould as justice minister and attorney general, acknowledged Wednesday in response to reporters’ questions that a deferred-prosecution agreement with SNC-Lavalin remains a possibility. He declined to comment further, saying the case was before the courts.Trudeau has argued a criminal trial could lead to the company’s moving to the United States and the loss of thousands of jobs, a sentiment supported by an internal SNC-Lavalin document obtained by The Canadian Press.—Follow @AndyBlatchford on TwitterAndy Blatchford, The Canadian Press
Families are resilient to far-reaching changes in their size and structure of families, but governments must do their part to protect society’s smallest unit, United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan said today at the General Assembly session marking the 10th anniversary of the International Year of the Family.Spurred on by global integration, “where once people lived in extended families, today they live increasingly in nuclear families,” he said, citing decreasing fertility rates, increasing life expectancy, delayed marriage and growing numbers of people living alone as contributing factors.”Traditional gender roles continue to evolve, as more women work outside the home and more men contribute to the work within it.”The AIDS epidemic is creating more orphans and imposing more burdens on grandparents, while migration in search of opportunities could keep family members apart for a very long time, Mr. Annan said.”In spite of strains and adversity, families are proving resilient, often in remarkable ways,” he said. “They are doing their best to pull together, and to continue serving as a source of strength and inspiration for their members.”Governments should integrate family concerns with broader development and poverty eradication efforts, he said. “We must not forget that the family is a vital partner in efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the many other objectives set by the international community during the last decade.” The MDGs are a set of time-bound targets for tacking major global ills by the year 2015.In her message, UN Population Fund (UNFPA) Executive Director Thoraya Ahmed Obaid recalled that at a landmark conference in 1994, governments agreed that national assistance to families should include health insurance and social security; day-care centres, paid parental leave for both parents, flexible work schedules and reproductive and child health services.Ms. Obaid called on governments and civil society alike “to work harder to strengthen the capacity of families and all of its members to overcome constraints posed by poverty and decreased access to public social services, including sexual and reproductive health.”She said this is “very important so that women, individuals and couples can decide about the number and timing of their children, exercise their human rights and have a voice in family decisions to benefit all family members.”Men should take responsibility for their sexual and reproductive behaviour and carry out their social and family roles, including shared parenting, so as to help achieve the MDGs, she said.
World cereal production in 2016 is set to reach 2,521 million tonnes, just 0.2 per cent below last year’s and the third-highest on record, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said today.Large inventory levels and relatively sluggish global demand mean that market conditions for staple food grains appear stable for at least another season, the agency’s latest Cereal Supply and Demand Brief predicts.According to the FAO Food Price Index released today, overall food prices rose 1 per cent in March on the month, as soaring sugar prices and continued increase in palm oil quotations more than offset plunging dairy product prices. The trade-weighted index tracks international market prices for five key commodity groups: major cereals, vegetable oils, dairy, meat and sugar. Its decline over the past year reflects ample food supplies, a slowing global economy and a stronger US dollar.Cereal prices fell slightly in March, marking the fifth straight month of decline, amid a favourable supply outlook in the new season.Sugar prices rose 17.1 per cent from February, reaching its highest level since November 2014. The sharp increase reflects mainly expectations of a larger production deficit during the current crop year, but likely also reported higher use of raw sugar for the production of ethanol in Brazil.Vegetable oil prices also rose notably, jumping 6.3 per cent from February, as international palm oil prices surged on the back of prolonged dry weather in Malaysia and Indonesia, by far the world main producers. Soy oil prices were stable, while sunflower and rapeseed oil prices declined.Dairy prices dropped 8.2 percent to its lowest level since June 2009, led by plummeting butter and cheese prices.Meat prices were broadly unchanged from last month.
It seems that for every story to emerge from the NFL Scouting Combine about the honest, hardworking former collegians trying to fight their way onto an NFL roster, there’s another about a drug fiend or a failed attempt at online dating. It is likely many players at the Combine can tout a lifetime of obeying societal norms and laws, showing up for class and making the grade – the good guys. However, the good guys find themselves jockeying for a draft selection against athletes who have faced widespread public ridicule from being kicked out of their respective college programs to even drug rehabilitation. Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., site of the Combine, is ground zero for this intersection of good and bad, the law abiding and the criminal, the internet savvy and the potentially gullible. Players of diverse and textured backgrounds speak to NFL coaches, general managers, scouts, the press, occasionally mere feet from each other, about the paths they chose in life. Good or bad, each player is trying to argue that his life’s path should include a stay in the city where that concerned NFL general manager or eager member of the media has traveled from. Take Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah, the former Brigham Young University linebacker, for instance. Ansah was born in Accra, Ghana, and you could hear it in his accent as he fielded questions during a Saturday press conference. Ansah spoke of his African homeland with a toothy smile and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work out at the Combine and pursue an NFL career despite not being formally introduced to the game until after he enrolled at BYU. “It’s a blessing,” Ansah said during his Saturday press conference. “This is a really humbling experience for me. I know a lot of people want to be in my shoes.” Hours later, Manti Te’o, a former Notre Dame linebacker, finalist for the 2012 Heisman Trophy and later an alleged victim of an online dating hoax, took to podium “C” in the Combine’s media room as a sea of reporters let fly with camera shutters and questions about his now-public personal follies. The story of Te’o’s victimhood is convoluted, but he maintains that his supposedly deceased girlfriend – Lennay Kekua – never existed. Te’o’s once-inspiring story of perseverance went up in smoke, and he claimed he was the victim of a hoax. At a Saturday Combine press conference, Te’o attempted to deflect questions (one reporter asked if he was currently dating anyone “in real life”) about the incident. “I understand that people have questions,” Te’o said during his Saturday press conference, his first since news of Kekua not existing broke, “but I think I’ve answered everything I could. For me, I’d really like to talk about football … It’s pretty crazy. I’ve been in front of a few cameras. But not as many as this. I said all I needed to say about that.” Te’o was calculated in his remarks about the hoax, causing some pundits to wonder about whether getting caught up with a fake girlfriend could actually cause him to drop in April’s NFL Draft. Tyrann Mathieu was a little more candid while remarking on his very public missteps. Mathieu, a finalist for the 2011 Heisman Trophy as a cornerback, was kicked off the LSU football team after two marijuana-related incidents and an arrest. Mathieu was stirred from his sleep on Sunday at 4 a.m. for a drug test, but wide eyes and a smile accompanied this plea to the NFL during his afternoon press conference: “I’m not totally asking them to trust me right now, but what I am asking is for them to give me a chance.” It’s hard not to think that the bad guys outshone the good guys when you look at the attention paid to athletes like Te’o ad Mathieu versus that paid to Ansah and even the seven Ohio State football Combine invitees. Just as Ansah expressed appreciation for his Combine invitation through his thick Ghanian accent, the Buckeyes said they were thankful for what OSU football did for their careers. “Going through this process, wherever I get drafted, I’m blessed to even be here,” former OSU defensive lineman Johnathan Hankins said during a Saturday interview session. “Wherever I go, I’m happy with that … All the OSU coaches supported me.”

Moscow and Russia defender Sergei Ignashevich has vowed that his team will try to exploit Spain’s weaknesses during the upcoming round of 16 matches at the FIFA World Cup.Russia, who finished second in Group A will face Group B winners Spain in Moscow on Sunday. They could have played Portugal in the last 16 but Fernando Santos’s side finished second behind Spain on goals scored.“There is no difference, Portugal and Spain have completely different styles of playing. It’s not so obvious whom it would be more difficult to face. We’ll try to exploit Spain’s weaknesses, if there are any, of course. Our task is to prepare well and to play at the maximum of our abilities. We’ll run even more and exert even more pressure on them if we need to,” Ignashevich told journalists via FourFourTwo.Scotland needs a hero: Billy Dodds Manuel R. Medina – September 10, 2019 According to former striker, Billy Dodds his country needs a hero to inspire future generations as the team’s hope to qualify to the EURO 2020 is small. The 38-year-old continued by saying that Russia would exploit Span’s tendency to leave free zones in their half of the pitch.According to him, the fact that the match will be held at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium was “the only advantage” of being the Group A runners-up.

Minnis told Commonwealth Attorneys-General, Law Ministers and Senior Officials that they must continue to safeguard the grouping’s legitimate financial systems from abuse.Addressing the Opening Session of the Meeting of Commonwealth Law Ministers and Senior Officials, which got underway Monday at Baha Mar Resort, Prime Minister Minnis said the fact that all of the Commonwealth Countries now operate in an increasingly interconnected and globalized world, brings certain challenges with it for the grouping’s “legitimate financial systems.” The Meetings conclude on Thursday, October 19, 2017.“We are connected by global financial and trade systems and by technologies which facilitate instantaneous communications, monetary transfers and other transactions,” Prime Minister Minnis said.“These technologies and transactions often defy the very notion of borders between States. This connectivity has also exposed us to the spectre of transnational crime, and to individuals who would use our legitimate financial systems to launder criminal proceeds and to finance groups and entities who would seek to destabilize these systems and our countries.”Prime Minister Minnis challenged officials to continue to work within the framework of the international policies and standards set by multinational institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to safeguard against the abuse of the group’s financial institutions.Prime Minister Minnis said there is quite a bit Commonwealth countries can accomplish as a group, to level the playing field and to keep countries on the cutting-edge of legal responses to these threats.“In this regard, the work of the Secretariat in producing the ‘Revised Common Law Legal Systems Model Provisions on Money Laundering; Terrorist Financing; Preventive Measures and the Proceeds of Crime’ is to be commended. “Its provisions can be adopted to fill various gaps or deficiencies in national legislation,” Prime Minister Minnis said. These model legislative provisions relating to money laundering, terrorism financing, proceeds of crime, civil forfeiture and sanctions are the outcome of a collaboration between the Commonwealth Secretariat, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).The model provisions form a starting point for states to evaluate the measures that should be incorporated into their domestic law to prevent, detect and effectively sanction money laundering and terrorism financing and to recover the proceeds of crime, with the overall objective of maintaining compliance with the revised Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Recommendations.By: Matt Maura (BIS)Photo caption: Prime Minister Minnis, addressing Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting (CLMM) Opening Ceremony at Baha Mar on Monday, October 16, 2017. Stay on target MovieBob Reviews: ‘Shadow’MovieBob Reviews: ‘The Curse of La Llorona’ The whole point of the Disney live-action remakes is basically another version of making a ride at one of their theme parks: “Remember that thing you like? Here’s an experience of it that’s slightly more tactile in some respect!” The trick is that almost everyone remembers watching these things as kids but while some of them are legit great movies and classics that hold up so you just kind of have to remake the movie with actors and sets – but others are either dated, don’t hold up or won’t work in live action but people remember moments or “the idea” of it; and then you’ve got to figure out what to do with a new version. The original Dumbo is definitely the second type. If you haven’t seen it in awhile, it’s mostly famous as being the most “old-school cartoon-like” of the feature-length Disney classics stylistically and for its bizarrely sparse narrative which (if you forgot) runs barely longer than an hour and mainly involves life just beating the crap out of a baby circus elephant for 90 percent of the story until he accidentally gets drunk, has a surreal to the point of psychedelic nightmare sequence, wakes up and is informed by a group of the worst racist caricatures in a movie that Disney will still admit they made that he has mutant super-powers which he then uses to… return to the circus as opposed to doing literally anything else with his life. So… yes, they were obviously gonna have to make a different movie. Still not sure why they made this movie, though.Directed by Tim Burton (sure, why not?), the new live-action Dumbo opts to ditch the “talking animals” aspect and center a new cast of human characters as Dumbo’s friends. Set shortly after the end of World War I, it opens by breezing through a condensed 20 or so minute “pitch dark gritty-realism” version of the original movie before segueing into, essentially, DUMBO II — which is basically Bioshock… but for the circus. No, really. As “what the hell do with do with this?” live-action Disney solutions go, it’s right up there with turning Sleeping Beauty into I Spit On Your Grave: Fairytale Edition for Maleficent — but this time they forgot to also make a good movie while they were making a batshit weird one. Though they did remember to make every single shot as ugly, cluttered, grimy and unpleasant to look at as possible in addition to being a tonal nightmare and borderline incoherent at times, so… hey?Officially, the main plot features Colin Farrell as a circus cowboy who returns from WWI missing an arm to find his wife dead from influenza and he and his two children reassigned to elephant-training duty for Danny DeVito’s cash-strapped traveling circus. When his science-minded daughter discovers that big-eared baby Dumbo can fly, it turns the circus into a success and draws the attention of Michael Keaton as a sinister businessman who’s sort of an evil Walt Disney, sort of an evil-er P.T. Barnum but clearly mainly supposed to be Thomas Edison who wants Dumbo to be the star attraction at his sprawling ultra high-tech New York City art-deco theme park alongside his supposed acrobat muse played by Eva Green.Yes he’s a bad guy, yes it turns out the seemingly forward-looking park is a dystopian retro-tech hellscape, yes he’s going to screw over the overly-trusting circus people and we’re going to learn a lesson about not selling out to the man and there are sinister schemes to thwart and henchmen to battle and a big escape sequence wherein everyone who’s had a fear to get over or skill set that’s been belittled will have to either get over it or use said skill set in order to pull off the rescue of Dumbo and his mother from danger and since it’s a Tim Burton movie it’s all so incredibly over-designed and strange-looking and occasionally needlessly grim you might be fooled into thinking something interesting is happening but… no, it really isn’t.In fact, for everything going on and what a bizarre premise they’ve built on what was already a strange setup, it’s almost remarkable how not interesting Dumbo is. Part of that is that none of these characters have any real dimension outside of how they’re meant to relate to Dumbo himself, and the film doesn’t seem to want to have him around much of the time: The CGI, to be polite about it, does not look very good, and the effect of a sort-of photo-realistic elephant flying mostly looks… I mean it was never going to look “possible” but it never once looks remotely believable; and it seems like they knew it and just kept him offscreen wherever they could. As a result, we’re mostly left with human characters who seem to have been compiled exclusively from Producer’s Notes on making this (or any) Disney production feel superficially “progressive” because they’re clearly paranoid about everyone remembering the racist crows thing: So the circus is now a multicultural rainbow coalition to rival the equally anachronistic-positivism of The Greatest Showman‘s Benetton crew, there’s a late-in-the-game “Oh by the way I guess we learned making animals perform is bad in general” thing that arrives without any actual buildup, a pro-girls-in-STEM subplot about Farrell’s daughter that pays off in the most “Wait, I have many questions…” way, possible.I’m sure there will be people who want to read some kind of “rebellion from the inside” take into the bad guy being a Disney-esque theme park huckster gobbling up independent acts, but the fact is the generic anti-capitalism is as generic as the animal-welfare and diversity business; insincerely-”woke” family-friendly gloss that wouldn’t look genuinely righteous even next to Captain Planet or the Burger King Kids Club.Dumbo is probably the worst of the live-action Disney remakes so far, and while I know the main question most people ask about these is “should I take my kids or is it too scary?” (and I’d say “Probably not” because it is weirdly dark and mean-spirited just like the original, but moreso because it’s also such a grim and ugly-looking thing aesthetically) it’s also dull and empty and unpleasant. Whatever ideas it has that aren’t bizarrely bad are just going through the motions, like when they sort-of stage a floor-show so they can do “Pink Elephants on Parade” and they just keep cutting back to Dumbo looking at it and… nothing happens. It’s there for no reason. Just eating up screen time, because that’s one of four things everyone remembers and it has to be there. You, fortunately, do not.
One of the most celebrated games of this year’s E3 was CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. Well, that’s if you were one of the journalists lucky enough to see the behind-closed-doors demo of it. We were hoping to see some footage of it during Gamescom, but alas, that isn’t the case. CD Projekt Red isn’t leaving us completely hanging though, as it released a series of screenshots of the highly anticipated title. It also posted a number of concept art pieces which give us a sense of what the game’s world will be like. The concept art was first posted on Twitter. Based on the art, Cyberpunk 2077 is certainly living up to its name. The images show a grim, dark world which is simultaneously advanced and decayed. The images certainly do not make the future look enticing. Despite the grimness of the world, it’s also strangely beautiful in its own way. To be honest, I kind of wish the entire game looked like this. Don’t get me wrong, the actual in-game graphics are stunning. But, the concept art conjures a mood that the highly advanced graphics fail to deliver. Either way, it’s easy to see Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be one of the best looking titles ever released.Fresh batch of #Cyberpunk2077 concept arts is heading your way! pic.twitter.com/1leQXHxBWY— Cyberpunk 2077 (@CyberpunkGame) August 22, 2018Here are the aforementioned screenshots.New screenshots from #Cyberpunk2077 are here! pic.twitter.com/Rj5qM8QNYv— Cyberpunk 2077 (@CyberpunkGame) August 21, 2018When will Cyberpunk 2077 see the light of day? Your guess is as good as mine. Given how it is only being shown to reporters at this point, it’s safe to assume we won’t see it any time soon. I would not be surprised if it’s a next-gen game. Or at the very least, a game that will launch simultaneously on current and next-gen systems. I suppose it’s a good thing we won’t see Cyberpunk 2077 for a while. If it’s bigger than The Witcher 3 (as CD Projekt Red claims), then we better start clearing our backlogs now in order to make room for it.Gamescom has had some pretty great news so far. We can’t recommend the Plantronics’ RIG 300 and RIG 400 Pro Gaming Headsets that debuted there enough. And we are very excited for Cyberpunk 2077 here at Geek, so we loaded up on TeePublic shirts in anticipation. While our entire focus is on how economic slow down and demonetization has engulfed the growth of real estate market, we are completely ignoring another crucial factor which is constantly and silently dominating the fate of real estate as well. Vastu experts. We as Indians are prone towards making impulsive emotional investments. Today, even as tenants look out for a residential apartment, office space or retail spaces, their first concern is Vastu. But if Vastu is considered as a bioplasmic architectural science, which has tools to help balance the five elements of nature controlling our life, then science should make things simple rather than complex and non-progressive, isn’t it? Or are we operating from fear psychosis factor by the so-called Vastu experts? Also Read – Add new books to your shelfTo understand how the Vastu hysteria created by these so-called Vastu experts can be resolved, Nilangshu Haldar – a renowned Maha Vastu expert from Kolkata and an independent Vastu consultant who works closely with numerous established developers in the city – came forward to clarify a few facts.Haldar clearly explains that Vastu corrections can be done on three levels. “If we happen to miss the corrections at the first level or the second level, we can still make the changes at the third level and these corrections will give us the same success rate at any level,” explained the Maha Vastu expert. Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsiveHe further elaborates, “The first level of Vastu correction is made at the time of purchasing of land. As uneven lands are trimmed and pruned to get a shape – it could be rectangular, square or even L-shaped. The second level is where an amalgamation of modern architecture and ancient Vastu-shastra work hand-in-hand to create a Vastu friendly construction with an attractive project design. Here again, the designs always depend on various factors like construction ROIs, facilities to be provided in the projects, to name a few. Hence, it is not always possible to keep the Vastu compliance as per the desire of the end users. Still, corrections can be made at the third level with colours and placement of various Vastu tools. Therefore, when people say “Is building ka Vastu thik nahi hai (the Vastu of this building is not good)”, then we should not forget that corrective measures are also available, with our Vedic science of Vastu-shastra.” In fact, there are other important details to be seen while choosing a property than to just be a Vastu fanatic. The material used for constructions, the foundation of the building, local infrastructural development and many other things needs to be considered before investing in a property. There are shopping malls, commercial complexes residential buildings that are vacant. Is it because the Vastu is not correct? Or is it just our inner fear created by external forces in the form of Vastu experts? If that’s the case, then what did the Vastu expert do at the first and second level? To all of these questions, Nilangshu replied, “An experienced and knowledgeable Vastu consultant should be well versed with the remedies to Vastu problems”. Among the real estate agents, competition developers, and rival property brokers, it has become a common practice to malign a property by spreading false rumours about a property – which in turn, creates difficult implications on the overall consumption in real estate.Originally, Vastu-shastra was used to make life prosperous and successful. But now, even with various real estate websites educating the prospective buyers about Vastu, fear and indecisiveness is increasing in our choices. The concern here is not Vastu, but the obsession that is creating a parallel corrupt industry by these so-called Vastu experts. It’s high time we wake up and use our intelligence, and use Vastu to our advantage.

We were able to simultaneously open 12 browser tabs, play a 1080p YouTube video, and used Slack, Twitter and Outlook without any signs of stuttering or lag.Its battery life, however, could be better. It lasted 7 hours and 43 minutes, which is slightly below the 8:34 category average.Sure, there are newer Chromebooks that are pushing the envelope forward, but the Pixelbook remains a solid choice for business pros, students, or anyone who wants a Chromebook that can morph from laptop to tablet on the fly.
Textify text copying tool update brings web integration by Martin Brinkmann on October 03, 2017 in Software – 7 commentsTextify is a free program for Microsoft Windows devices to copy pretty much any text from any dialog box or element that you see on the screen. This includes text that cannot be copied by normal means.Note: The release version of Textify, version 1.6.1 at the time of writing, is flagged as malicious by many antivirus engines. A check on Virustotal returned 17 hits out of 65 engines with major players such as Avast, Avira, Kaspersky and Symantec all flagging the program. Most flag it as generic or adware however, and it seems likely that those are false positives. Still, I recommend you wait until the issue is resolved before you run the program. Windows may block the execution as well, but you can bypass the blocking.Textify is created by a long standing developer who publishes popular Windows programs such as Unchecky or 7+ Taskbar Tweaker.Tip: Check out our last review of Textify here.Textify 1.6.1 with web integrationThe main idea behind Textify is to make it easier to copy text from elements that text cannot be copied by normal means. So, instead of having to copy the text by hand, you may use Textify to copy it in one go.The program maps the function to the middle mouse button, and activates it only if the Shift-key is held down when the middle mouse button is clicked. You may change the modifier and mouse in the program settings. The major change in Textify 1.6 introduces options to run web searches and other activities right away. The program ships with four options by default: You can send text to Google Translate, or run searches on Wikipedia, Google or DuckDuckGo.The program displays the four default options right in the interface when the functionality is invoked. You may simply copy the text as well if you prefer that.It is relatively easy to add your own web services to the application; you need to edit the ini file of the program for that, and may want to use the existing four services as a blueprint on how to add your own services (or modify one of the existing services instead).Closing WordsThe integration of web services makes a lot of sense, as it improves the workflow further; handy if you need to research error messages, translate text, or use other web services that you have added to the application’s ini file.
